Georgia K. Gaydos of Westtown

Georgia K. Gaydos passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones on Oct. 8, 2015. She was 82. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph and Georgia Ellis Krafcik. Georgia was the beloved wife of John G. Gaydos, whom she married in 1956. The couple recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Mark (Patti), John (Barbara), Tim (Laura) and Beth Nazario (Mick),  She was the proud grandmother of John, Jessica, and Jason Gaydos; Alex and Ellyn Gaydos; Greg, Robert and Jamie Gaydos and Justin and Daniel Nazario.

Georgia graduated high school from The Rayen School of Youngstown, Ohio and continued her education at St. John College (now Ursuline) in Cleveland, Ohio where she earned her B.S.N. in nursing. 

Georgia was a very special woman and spent her life as a compassionate caretaker helping others.  She began her career as a nurse at the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She took time off to be a homemaker in West Chester and returned to work as a plant nurse at Clifton Precision in Clifton Heights. After her retirement, she continued to work as a volunteer to care for the elderly.

In 1964, the family relocated to Kobe, Japan where they lived for two years. Georgia and John made many friends there, including five generations of the Sasakura family.  Georgia and her husband traveled extensively around the world and loved spending summers with their family at the beach in Stone Harbor.

Georgia also loved Chester County where she and her husband settled down to raise their family. They were residents of Westtown for 33 years and of Birmingham Township for 15 years where they made wonderful, life-long friends.

A longtime member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Georgia was a Eucharistic Minister, a caregiver in Kolbe Cares, a member of the women’s club and she enjoyed touring with the Kolbe travel group.  For 10 years, Georgia was a member of the West Chester Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. 

Georgia truly enjoyed her family, homemaking, entertaining friends, reading, going to book club, traveling, cooking and Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging). 

Relatives and Friends are invited to her visitation from 9:00am – 10:00am on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00am.

Interment at The Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester, PA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the CCIU Practical Nursing Program, 455 Boot road, Downingtown, PA 19335 in honor of Georgia Gaydos.  Checks can be made out to CCIU, PNP Scholarship Fund.
