George Allen Stanek, 82, of West Chester, PA died at home on September 23, 2016.

He was born August 19th, 1934 in Winona, MN. 

His brother Bob preceded him in death, and his wife Arlene and daughter Suzie live in Edina, MN. His brother Earl lives in Cotter, AS and his sister Irene and her husband Doc live in Rollingstone, MN. They have three children: Laurie, Barb(Jim) and Mark. His brother-in-law Mo Kocher and Barb live in Bradenton, FL. Mo's son Sean(Rocio) live in Miami, FL.  Mo's daughter Wendy Brozek resides in Trenton, MI.

George graduated in 1952 from Winona HS and the University of Minnesota in 1957 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.  Following the Korean Conflict, he entered the Army as a Private in 1959, served in the National Guard, and received an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces in 1967.

George married Joan Stanek in Toledo, OH. They were married 55 years. 

George and Joan have 5 children. Sons Steve, Mike, and Kevin live in West Chester, PA. His youngest son, Christopher lives in Dusseldorf, Germany. His daughter, Debbie and her husband Ed and children Caroline and Ben Johnston live in Malvern, PA.

He started his career with Standard Oil of Ohio as an engineer in a refinery in Toledo, Ohio and subsequently worked in different capacities within the company until he was promoted to the Director of the Truck Stop Division in Wilmington, Delaware.  Then he returned to headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. After he retired from Standard Oil, he consulted for BP in London and Singapore for several years.  He and wife Joan had many adventures in the countries they explored while on assignment with BP.  His final consulting position was with Truck Stops of America in Ohio.

He had a strong love and loyal devotion for his family. His favorite hobbies were gardening, hunting, boating, and fishing in Lake Erie.  He also enjoyed his many dogs, jogging, hiking, watching ballgames, and snorkeling at his timeshare in Grand Cayman.  Parkinson's Disease had a dramatic effect on his lifestyle until he was unable to continue the day to day activities that he enjoyed so much.

George was the best husband, father, friend, and leader in his community.  George was a loyal parishioner at St. Joan of Arc in Ohio and St. Patrick in Malvern, PA. Most recently he attended St. Peter and Paul in West Chester, PA. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Neighborhood Hospice at 795 E. Marshall St. Suite 204, West Chester, PA 19380, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014, or an organization of your choice.

The family will greet friends and loved ones at 10 am on October 7th at St. Patrick Church, 104 Channing Ave. Malvern, PA 19355; followed by a mass at 11 am.

The burial will be private.
