Frederick R. Wood

Frederick R. Wood of Downingtown.

Frederick R. Wood, 90 years old, passed away on October 11, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Ethel H. Wood and shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in Coatesville, PA, to the late Fred L. Wood and Sara R. Wood. 

He is survived by his daughters, Toni Wood Fritz, Terri S. Wood, son-in-law Wesley W. Fritz, and grandson Tyler A. Fritz.

He was preceded in death by his sister Lola B. Swigart and a grandson Brad Fritz.

He graduated from Coatesville High School in December 1943, midway through his senior year, as a 17-year-old young man, joining the military during WWII was allowed to graduate early. As a Marine, he participated in the Third Fleet Operations against Japan, the Okinawa Campaign, and in the Occupation of Kyushu, Japan.  Proudly, he fought for his love of home and country.

Graduating with a business degree, he worked at Sonobond Corporation for 35 years before retiring.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 am at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com; followed by his Memorial Service at 11:00 am.

A graveside service will be private.
