Eugene J. Buglio, The “Music Man of West Chester”

Eugene Buglio passed away peacefully on May 6th at the age of 87.

Born in Hazelton, PA, and a graduate of West Chester University, Eugene was a well-known fixture in the community having owned and operated Taylor’s Music Store from 1960 through the 1980’s, and continued his connection for many years after. 

Gene Buglio was responsible for initiating numerous music programs in Chester County.  He started the student instrument rental program in the West Chester School District, and help develop and grow many community band programs, including the Chester County Youth Orchestra, the West Chester Community Band, the Chester County Pops and the Immaculata Symphony.

In addition, Gene contributed to the betterment of West Chester beyond music.  He was President of the Chamber of Commerce, he helped bring the first parking garage to West Chester, and served on the board that created the West Chester Community Center.

Eugene Buglio’s vision of making music as a unifying force for developing self-confidence and creativity in the individual and pride in group accomplishment is his lasting legacy. 

He is survived by 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his devoted wife of 38 years, Dr. Barbara Piatka.    

Memorial Service is open to the public, and will be at the United Methodist Church of West Chester, 129 S. High St. West Chester, PA 19380 on Sunday, May 21st at 2PM.
