Clarence Lonsdale, Jr. Obituary

Clarence Haworth Lonsdale, Jr., age 87 of Unionville, PA, passed into the Lord’s presence on March 26, 2018 after a short illness.

‘Howie’, as he was best known, was born July 30, 1930 in Central Falls, RI. He spent much of his childhood in Newton, N.J. but returned to Rhode Island, graduating from Pawtucket’s East High School where he lettered in three sports. While still in high school, Howie began a lifelong commitment to serving youth, taking summer jobs as camp counselor at the local YMCA. Later in life, Howie would serve as an administrator for the Boy Scouts of America, a job he enjoyed for over 20 years.

In 1948, Howie enrolled at the University of Rhode Island, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering.

Upon graduating URI he accepted a job with the DuPont Company but didn’t start there until he honored his ROTC commitment by serving his country as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army with a tour of duty in Korea.

In 1954, Howie began his career with DuPont in Camden, S.C. Over the next 40 years Howie moved from the engineering ranks to management. Howie retired from DuPont June 30, 1992.

But Howie hardly retired from life. While at DuPont, Howie met Joyce Elaine Heinze. They married June 10, 1987 and together created Windy Brae Farm, raising sheep, chickens and a bounty of fruit and vegetables. Windy Brae was their little paradise on earth, and Howie loved every day there.

Howie was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Haworth Lonsdale, Sr., his mother Rhea Blanche Breault, and his brother, John Breault Lonsdale (Sis). He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his three sons; Scott (MaryEllen), Jeff, and Kent (Gina) and his five grandchildren; Ian (Jenni), Melissa, Daniel, Ryan and Amy.
