Charles F. Doyle of Westtown

Charles F. Doyle, 91 of Westtown, PA, passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, January 28, 2017, with his family at his side. 

He was the husband of the late Laura M. (Mays) Doyle with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Born on February 24, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA, Charles was the son of the late Charles B. Doyle and the late Alberta M. (Kane) Doyle.  He was also predeceased by his brother, Raymond Doyle.

Charles served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  He also served in the United States Army Reserve.

He worked at the Philadelphia Bulletin for 36 years until they closed their doors on January 29, 1982.  He subsequently worked for Packard Press until his retirement.

Charles was a volunteer at the Chester County Hospital and the USO at Philadelphia International Airport. He was a member of the Willow Grove Chapter of the Retired Officers Assn., the Chester County Aero Club and, prior to his illness, he devoted much of his time to St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Westtown. 

Charles was a private pilot and had a passion for flying. He further enjoyed traveling the world and was also a talented woodcraftsman.  

Charles is survived by his daughters, Susan L.D. Bank (David) of Newark, DE, and Karen L. Baer (Mike) of Westtown; siblings William Doyle and Harry Doyle; grandchildren, Michelle L. Peppel, Michael C. Baer and Jennifer D. Bank; great grandchildren, Caitlin L. Baer, Shelby F. Baer and Jaxon C. Peppel.

Private services and interment will be held, with Military Honors, in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA  19382.
