Alex was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and was adopted at age two by Karen and Mark Gadson, and older sister Megan. He attended elementary through high school in Avon, CT and West Chester, PA. He worked as a landscaper, while studying to return to school for professional landscape design.

Alex was a scout with Westminster Presbyterian Church Boy Scout Troop 93 and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2012. He designed and built a Mayan themed playscape, which he installed at the Manos Amigas clinic in La Entrada, Honduras.
