James Norton Obituary

James G. Norton, 90 of West Chester, PA passed away Monday March 18, 2024 at Eagleview Landing in Exton, PA.

Born August 22, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, to Katherine and Joe Norton who emigrated from Athlone Ireland.  He was the youngest of seven children.  He survived Joe, Kitty, Patsy, Clair, Chrissy and Micky.  Jim grew up in Brooklyn and attended Fort Hamilton High School.   Following High School, James married the late Helen Norton (Kuroski).  He enlisted in the Navy and served four years on a submarine during the Korean War.  He attended Pace University at night while helping to raise the family.  He worked in Finance and Accounting, working his way up the ranks to the position of CFO for Farrell Lines.  He met Priscilla Sampson and spent the last 22 years with her.

James was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Barnegat, NJ prior to moving to Pennsylvania.

He coached his sons’ sports teams and volunteered to run the local Little League organization.  In recognition of his commitment, Freehold, NJ named a day after him.  He enjoyed taking his family to Jersey Freeze for ice cream and malteds.  His favorite was black raspberry ice cream.  He also enjoyed golfing with his sons.

James is survived by his sons, James, Paul (Leslie), Stephen (Suzy) and Philip; grandchildren Shaughn (Annette), Kaitlyn (Nate), Andrew (Brianna), John Paul (Danielle), Ryan, Claudia, Madelynne (Nick), Nicholas, Michael, Victoria and Patrick.

James will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by his family.  We were always told by others how caring and nice he was to them.

Services and Interment will be private.
